"Can I benefit from psychotherapy or counseling?”
If you’ve asked the question, it may be just the right time in your life to start the therapeutic journey of growth, healing and empowerment.
"Will my health insurance cover counseling?"
TY, Inc. is covered by most insurance plans. We also accept self-pay. Please contact us and we will help you research your insurance coverage. In some cases we reduce our fees should you exhaust the allotted number of sessions provided by their major insurance group/carrier and still require additional counseling services.
"What will a typical appointment be like?"
During your first appointment for psychotherapy/counseling, your counselor will need a summary of the problems or questions that have brought you to counseling in order to work with you to establish goals and an appropriate treatment plan for your counseling. Adults will meet alone with the counselor. Teenagers will usually have some time with the parent present and some time alone with the counselor. A session that allows observation of and discussion among family members may also be held. The counselor will want to hear your history, including: family history and dynamics, significant relationships, work, substance use, cultural background, major losses, traumas, medical issues and any other information that may prove helpful. Parents will be asked to provide information about their teen's developmental history, schooling and social relationships, as well as other information that may be relevant to the difficulties the teen is experiencing.
"Are my sessions confidential?"
Along with empathy, we believe confidentiality is a concept in the therapeutic relationship which should be assured and demonstrated at all times. As a client, you are guaranteed the protection of confidentiality within the boundaries of the client/counselor relationship. TY, Inc. will not make any disclosure of any information without your written consent. The only limitations to confidentiality occur when a client is either a threat to themselves or someone else, or when legal requirements demand that confidential information be shared. Please contact us regarding our confidentiality policy if you have more questions.
"Can you prescribe medications?"
Only physicians/medical doctors (M.D.) can prescribe medications in Georgia. If you already have a relationship with a physician/M.D. your counselor will be happy to consult them. If not, there are other physicians in Loganville, Grayson, and Monroe and the surrounding area with whom we have worked successfully with in the past... Your counselor will then be able to help you monitor the effectiveness of medications your physician/M.D. prescribes in order to find the right medication.
